Home > Early Development Charts > LONG AGO – EDC Level A (Sam Creamer)

“Long, long ago” originally written in 1833 by English composer Thomas Haynes Bayly has become a popular tune for its simple AABA format. While the original lyrics are themed around nostalgic memories, the tunes metre has allowed for association with many other hymns and poems. Most notably, the tune was the inspiration for Glen Miller’s hit “Don’t sit under the apple tree” from the 1940’s Big Band era.

This arrangement of the tune is graded at Level A and is very basic in its structure. There is however an element of challenge when working on balance, tuning and intonation within the ensemble. Written at 112 bpm, the tempo can be slightly altered to suit the skill of your ensemble but should not be taken too slow or too fast and should maintain constant throughout.
